Normal labour is also called eutocia.
Labour is called normal when it fulfils the following criteria.
- Labour should be spontaneous.
- Onset of labour should be at term., preterm labour and post term labour is abnormal.
- Labour with vertex presentation in left oxypito anterior position and right occipito anterior position is normal. Labour with occipito posterior position and breech presentation is abnormal.
- Labour should not prolong. normally in primigravida mother the normal duration of first stage of labour 12 Hours and in multigravida first stage of labour 6 hours, if the labour hours increase and fetus not deliver in between these hours then it is prolonged labour and it is abnormal.
- Natural termination with minimal aid- means delivery with minimal equipment and not use of forcep and vacume for delivery
- Labour will be complete without complication to mother or baby.then it is called normal labour.
